If you haven’t heard of the 307 highway, you need to! This highway runs all along the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and give you access to Cancun, the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and continues south through the Costa Maya to Belize.

The Mayan Riviera has become more and more popular in the past years, mainly because of it’s beautiful beaches, interesting things to do and the friendly locals that will greet with a smile.

There is accommodation to suit every need, whether you are an all inclusive resort type traveler, a backpacker, or prefer a chic boutique hotel.

Playa del Carmen, the main town, must be on your to-do list while visiting Riviera Maya.  Take a stroll on the pedestrian 5th Avenue to buy your souvenirs, have a Mexican beer or enjoy a meal. If you are looking for nightlife, head to 12th Street.

Here are just a few of the things you can get up to in the Mayan Riviera: swim in amazing cenotes, snorkel with giant sea turtles, “get your tan on” on the white sand beaches, drink tequila, meet locals in a Mayan community, party it up at Coco Bongo, see the Mayan Ruins, swim with whale sharks, buy souvenirs, have a Mexican breakfast of tacos and coca cola, zip line, soothe your soul with a Temascal healing sauna, drink some more tequila and just take a well deserved break.
