Mayan Ruins
Located about 2.5 hours from Cancun, Chichen Itza is a large complex of magnificent Mayan ruins and one of the biggest and best preserved in Mexico. It blends Mayan and Toltec influences with the majestic pyramid of Kulkulkan at its center and dates back to 600 AD of the Mayan civilization.
Built between 1200 and 1500 AD, Tulum is one of the most famous Mayan ruins and the only Mayan port city ever discovered. This is a must see and is just an easy day-trip away. Xel-Ha, a nearby natural aquarium where you can snorkel over acres of lagoon, coves and inlets, is also worth a visit.
Coba, another Mayan ruin, means 'water stirred by wind' and was named for its nearby lakes. One of the largest Mayan cities in existence, it’s home to the Nohoch Mul, the tallest pyramid on the peninsula at 138 feet.
Dining and Nightlife
No one will go hungry in Cancun, it boasts 350 top-quality restaurants. You’ll find an immense variety of culinary styles here representing every corner of the world. Whether you prefer upscale dining or a casual atmosphere you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for on the famous Cancun strip.
Nightlife in Cancun is legendary and offers as much variety as dining options with quiet, beachside cafes, wild discos and friendly bars. Some hot-spot favorites include the Hard Rock Café, Carlos and Charlie’s and Planet Hollywood.
Other attractions in and around the Cancun area include a mini-theme park, world renowned ballet performances and a 250-acre ecological theme park featuring an underground river for swimming.
